Inspiring Conversations with Alexia Mitchell of Reset and Heal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexia Mitchell.

Hi Alexia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.

On December 27, 2020, my life came to a screeching halt. I literally told my husband 2 days before my mother’s transition how much I loved my job. I was a flourishing executive director at one of the state’s leading nonprofit mental health providers for children. My mother passed away unexpectedly from Covid at the age of 55.

At that point, I became the legal guardian of my 24-year-old special needs brother, and my life instantly changed. Due to the demands of my brother’s needs and services in addition to the level of my extensive grief I resigned from my job. 10 months later my husband and I purchased our dream home and 3 days later it caught on fire and we lost all of our belongings.

My husband, our 3 children, and I were displaced. This was such a hard time. Trying to manage it ALL!!! However, Reset and Heal, LLC was birthed out of my pain and grief. It was born out of how I had to reset my life so that I can heal. The resetting has been painful but the healing has been victorious.

People see the healing (the victory) but they don’t see the process that it took to get there. Reset and Heal have allowed me too vulnerable and transparent with my journey and allowed other people to become vulnerable with their resetting process.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

It has not been a smooth ride because as I concentrate on my own healing I am also motivating and advocating for others to do the same, to focus not on their healing and overall mental wellbeing.

The road has been challenging because sometimes my grief will prevent me from taking the next step towards my healing; however, I always recall my ‘Why” and that is what keeps me going. My “Why” is ensuring that therapy and healing is given and permitted in the black and brown community.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know? Reset and Heal is a mental health consulting agency. Reset and Heal partners with organizations to fill industry mental health gaps within organizations.

Reset and Heal contracts with nonprofit and for-profit organizations as well as educational institutions to provide clinical support. What sets me apart is that I am a therapist with the goal of breaking down the stigma of mental health amongst the Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) community.

I promote healing amongst the black and brown community by facilitating workshops and group sessions. Brand wise I am most proud of how I took my personal story by being vulnerable and transparent and sharing my purpose by reiterating that everyone has the privilege to heal.

Reset and Heal offers therapeutic workshops, group sessions, and motivational speaking engagements.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis? My mother and my grandfather both passed within 2 months of each other from Covid-19.

Covid-19 has shown me that life is short and that fear has no place when you are operating in your purpose. We are all going through something, be kind to one another, always put yourself first and breathe even when you feel like you are suffocating from the day, just breathe because this too shall pass.
