My thought process behind starting my business was after my mother transitioned in 2020 from Covid.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alexia Mitchell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alexia, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business? My thought process behind starting my business was after my mother transitioned in 2020 from Covid. I had to make myself available to care for my family, my differently-abled younger brother as well as my grandmother. In addition to all of my new found responsibilities I wanted to provide people in the black and brown community the tools on how to reset and heal. I wanted to share with people that you can always heal after you find your ability to reset.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others? My business is Reset and Heal. Reset and Heal is a mental health consulting agency. Reset and Heal partners with organizations to fill industry mental health gaps within organizations. Reset and Heal is set apart from others because we understand that seeking therapy is a privilege; therefore we create various avenues to facilitate healing such as through providing mental health workshops and support groups that facilitates healing in the black and brown community, in addition we focus on destigmatizing mental health in the black and brown community. Reset and Heal will also began offering doula and yoga services in the fall. This services are advocacy avenues as we work to lean into black maternal health as well as trauma informed practices. I am most proud of my ability to step out on faith by not allowing fear to hinder my gifts.

It has been challenging in some aspect of keeping an adequate work life balance as a mother, wife, sister, and new business owner. I want the world to know that Reset and Heal was birthed out of my pain of grief after losing my mother unexpectedly and having to reset my life. Reset and Heal is my avenue to share my story of how at the worst time of life I was able to give myself what I needed so that I could begin to heal from my trauma, my grief, and depression. My brand symbolizes that if I can reset and heal, so can you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc. My favorite brunch spot is Sweet Potatoes. Sweet Potatoes is located in downtown Winston Salem. My favorite item on the menu is the Fried Chicken and Waffles. During the week, you can check out ByGood Coffee to grab you a delicious Red Velvet Latte or just to catch up on emails. Downtown Winston Salem is a great place to hang out with other young professionals and to check out the scenery.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my husband. We have been together for over 18 years. We have seen each other reset and heal many times. However, it wasn’t until I lost my mother and 10 months later we lost our home and our belongings in a house fire, that I realized that there is nothing we cannot do or face together. We are definitely a force together on all fronts. Without him my ability to reset and heal and ability to share my story with the world would be impossible.
